PROP ENABLED FIRE EXTINGUISHER TRAINING SYSTEM

The BullEx I.T.S. Xtreme™ Live-Fire Extinguisher Training System is an ideal solution for a realistic workplace training session.

The I.T.S. Xtreme utilizes the same patented flame response technology as the Intelligent Training System™ (I.T.S.)  to sense where the trainee aims and sweeps the compressed air and water SmartExtinguisher® and varies the flames automatically in response.

The I.T.S. Xtreme is different because it is compatible with our stainless steel props. These props  provide a realistic flame pattern and also require that trainees use the proper technique for the flames to be extinguished.  Using a Rubbish Bin, Stove Top, Paint Locker or Electric Motor Prop, trainees experience the real flame behavior of everyday items and learn the proper method to extinguish them.

In addition, Class A, B, E or F fires can be selected at four different difficulty levels to further challenge trainees.  And because the system is propane-fed and uses only compressed-air/water training extinguishers, there is no added cost or clean-up associated with using dry-chemical or CO2 extinguishers.

Provide countless training scenarios in a safe, cost-effective manner with the I.T.S. Xtreme.

The I.T.S. Xtreme  is a simpler, safer way to provide live-fire extinguisher training in your facility.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS

Training Made Easy
The I.T.S. Xtreme comes complete with everything you will need for fire extinguisher training

Prop Enabled
Stainless steel props demonstrate different fire scenarios with an available Rubbish Bin (Class A), Stove Top (Class F), Paint Locker (Class B) and Electric Motor Prop (Class E).

Effective Training
Extremely low operating costs mean you can train as many, or as few, individuals as needed. Select class A, B, E or F fires at four different difficulty levels or instantly re-ignite the flames using the flare up button to challenge trainees.

Safe Training
The trainer can control the intensity of the flames and utilize the emergency stop switch on the handheld controller at any time. Additionally, a motion sensor shuts down the flames instantly if the system is bumped or knocked, making BullEx live-fire training systems the safest live-fire simulators available.

Cost Effective
Because there is no longer a need to discharge and recharge costly dry-chemical or CO2 extinguishers, BullEx live-fire extinguisher training systems are often more cost effective than conventional extinguisher training.

Clean, environmentally-friendly
Uses clean burning propane to generate flames, eliminating the need for cleanup of dangerous and hazardous chemicals associated with actual extinguishers.

Trackable results
A visual display shows the time it takes each individual to put out the fire, allowing you to track trainees progress over time.

Reliable and Durable
The I.T.S. Xtreme is comprised entirely of stainless steel components and designed to withstand repeated use.

HOW IT WORKS

The I.T.S. Xtreme Live-Fire Fire Extinguisher Training System utilizes patented sensor technology to detect how well a trainee uses the BullEx SmartExtinguisher training extinguisher. The I.T.S. Xtreme system can sense if the user is properly aiming and sweeping the nozzle of the extinguisher at the base of the fire.

The four sensors on the I.T.S. Xtreme unit detect the discharge of compressed air and water from the SmartExtinguisher. The onboard control system then varies the flames in response.

To successfully extinguish the fire, the trainee must aim and sweep the extinguisher across the base of the fire. If the trainee aims just below, or just above the base, the flames will go down, but will not extinguish. If the trainee only aims at one side of the fire, that side will be extinguished while the other side continues to grow.

When using any of the optional props, the system detects which one is being used and alters the flame’s behavior in response to the extinguisher to create a more realistic experience.

Class A– Rubbish Bin Prop
Flames grow gradually and increase in intensity from the rubbish bin prop. While maintaining a safe distance trainees must aim properly, ensuring the proper application of the SmartExtinguisher to put out the flames.

Class B- Paint Locker Prop
Flames grow to engulf the shelves and paint cans in this Class B fire prop. Trainees must aim and sweep the SmartExtinguisher across the entire prop, but focus on the lower shelf where the fire is most intense to put out this fire.

Class E- Electric Motor Prop
Fire initially sparks within the motor casing before extending beyond the appliance, simulating an electrically charged motor fire. Trainees must aim and sweep, coating the entire device to extinguish the fire.

Class F- Stove Top Prop
Flames erupt from the pan as well as the burner surface simulating a stove top grease fire. Trainees must maintain a safe distance and apply the SmartExtinguisher to both the pot and burner to successfully extinguish the flames. With no thermal output the ITS Xtreme can safely be placed at kitchen bench height to allow trainees to practice fire blanket application.

Use the handheld controller to select the class of fire to demonstrate (A, B, E or F) as well as one of four difficulty levels. When props are used, select the specific prop with the controller as well.  Once set, the instructor presses and holds the ignition button and then it’s up to the trainee to actually extinguish the flames.  The fire goes out when the trainee uses the proper sweeping technique.  If the trainee is unsuccessful, the fire can be extinguished by releasing the ignition button.

The flare up button can be used to instantly reignite the flames at any point, to further challenge trainees.  The display on the controller shows the status of the system and how long the trainee took to put out the fire, or if the fire has even been extinguished. Safety features include an emergency shut off switch and tilt sensors that automatically shut-off the propane if the system is bumped or set-up improperly.

Contractor’s Safety Council of Texas City Ken Jones, Jr, Technical Instructor

I would like to personally thank BullEx for the I.T.S. Xtreme. I was one of those Fire Marshals that used the cut down 55 gallon drum for years. Hauling it around with the diesel and gasoline mixture, spraying multi-purpose extinguisher powder all over myself, the trainees, and lots and lots of cars. What a mess that was. But it was how we gave the students that “hands-on” experience that is so important in learning a new skill. I did that for 25 years in the Fire Service. After retiring from the Fire Department I came to work for the Contractors Safety Council of Texas City. The Safety Council’s Mission is; “To advance the Safety, Health and Security of Workers in the Communities We Serve.” With the help of the I.T.S. Xtreme, we are doing just that and doing it in a safe, straightforward, environmentally friendly manner. We have tied the live-fire extinguisher training to an instructor lead class covering the OSHA required information that would not be well-regarded without the hands-on practical training. The training we offer has been received enthusiastically by our clients and their employees. The students have said that they enjoyed the training, were excited about the live-fire scenarios, and appreciated the realistic training. As an Instructor, I value the ease of setup, the portability, and the ability to vary the simulation. As a Fire Safety Professional, I am impressed with safeness, realism, and impact of the training. Thanks again, the I.T.S. Xtreme has proven to be a completely successful solution to the fire extinguisher training needs here at the Safety Council.

National Institute of Standards and Technology Captain Mark Miller

First of all I would like to thank you for taking the time to talk with me and explaining the product to me. As you are aware, my department ordered the I.T.S. Xtreme package early August. We received the unit quickly and with everything agreed upon.

My department teaches at least 10 to 15 classes a year on the NIST Facility.  Previously, we would have to go to a storage area, dig out used extinguishers, get the diesel fuel can filled up, grab the burn pan and a couple road flares, and then head to the area where we would be holding the extinguisher training. We would show a video and walk outside hoping the wind wasn’t blowing too badly to put black smoke and dry powder back on to the students (NIST employees). The old way was time consuming and dirty for the employees. Not to mention a little unsafe in relighting the fire in a hot burn pan.

The I.T.S. Xtreme System is a safe, clean, easy to operate, easy to set up, self contained training system. We put the unit and its accessories onto a training trailer, hook the trailer to our brush unit (truck) and drive it to the training site.

The firefighters really like the system as well. The clean use of the extinguishers saves the firefighter uniforms from the dry powder. As far as management goes, it is definitely safer than using road flares to start the fuel fire, plus we have control over extinguishing the fire by remote now. This system gives the Fire Protection Group a lot more safety controls than the burn pan method gives and for a group that promotes safety; this unit helps show the NIST employees a safer training method and assists us in keeping within the guidelines of good safe training.

We trained 40 NIST employees on September 4 and trained another 14 on September 10. We had employees tell us how much they liked training on the system since it was cleaner and the use of the different props made it more realistic.

I know we will be holding a lot more classes in the near future. We have over 3,000 extinguishers throughout the buildings here at NIST. We promote the use of fire extinguishers and in keeping with the OSHA guidelines and NIST regulations, employees are required to take training in order to use fire extinguishers. It’s the Fire Protection Group’s job to provide the training. With the I.T.S. Xtreme System we are definitely up for the task. Thanks for designing such a great system.
